Description Behavioral Health Care organization is in need of a full time Medical Director. This position oversees the Medical Department in the treatment of Alcohol and Chemically dependent patients. We are looking for someone with a minimum 5 years experience in a Medical Director role. License to practice medicine in Tennessee required. Knowledge of alcohol and chemical dependency treatment, rehabilitation programs, and dual diagnosis experience required. Graduation from an accredited college or university, with a master’s degree also required. ASAM Certified and experience with Mental Health and Addiction required. This position will supervise all of the Medical Department and report to the Executive Director. Overview of position: Ensures the quality of medical treatment is maintained at the highest possible level. Approve all general medical policies and procedures. Develop, coordinate and monitor procedures with Executive Director and Director of Nursing, to include: Standing Orders; Defined areas of medical responsibility; Provision for referral consultation; and Medical Screening Techniques Acts a liaison to other medical staffs as appropriate. Screen and accept patients for medical management in the treatment program at the request of other medical staff, non-medical sources and other physicians without staff privileges. Complete a history and physical of all patients in the first forty-eight hours of treatment. Be on call for medical emergencies or medical problems that develop during treatment and treat these patients as needed. Function as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Attend and participate, as a team member, in clinical staffing sessions, quality assurance activities, and other unit activities as needed. Assist with utilization review physicians calls for continuing stay purposes. Participate in the development of, and approve the patients treatment plans, discharge and aftercare plans. Inform treatment team members of medical programs and progress. Supervises/Manages staff, by: Delegating both responsibility and authority on a regular basis, Ensures department efficiency, monitors output and initiates changes as needed; Ensures staff is accountable for their performance and takes action, as needed; Ensures staff comply with company policies and procedures; and Evaluates and documents supervision both month and annually, in a timely manner.
