Description Job Description The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for is a senior representative of the physician-led Health System. The CMO is the leader of the Clinic Physicians and the top clinical officer for Medical Center. To achieve the organization?s mission and strategic goals, the CMO works with the CAO of Medical Center and other organizational leaders to develop, promote and support the strategic direction. To promote partnership and integration, the CMO represents Medical Center/Clinic Physicians on various Health System committees and acts as the organization?s medical liaison within Medical Center. The CMO reports to the CEO of Health System, but is also accountable to the Clinic Physicians, the Medical Center Board of Directors and the organization?s customers. Responsibilities include: ? Demonstrate commitment to the Medical Center Mission-Vision-Values and serve as a role model for values integration ? Promote and maintain the physician-directed nature of the Clinic Physicians at Medical Center ? Facilitate teamwork between physician and non-physician staff ? Promote a culture characterized by innovation, appropriate risk taking, discovering and meeting the needs of our customers ? Promote positive and professional communication within and between departments and with patients and other customers, consistent with the Medical Center Values ? Assist in development and oversight for an integrated delivery system for communities served ? Work as a team with senior Medical Center and Medical Center physician and administrative leaders ? In partnership with the CAO and Chief Nursing Officer, develop and monitor the medical system's quality and safety efforts ? Assist in establishing the means to measure quality results against quality goals and gives recognition for superior performance ? Assist in the development and monitoring of the system's financial plans; provide guidance in the development of operating plans, programs, capital expense budgets, forecasts and developmental plans prepared by senior management; and assists to ensure that such plans and programs are followed ? Identify trends/conditions that could affect the medical center?s ability to meet long-range goals ? Assist with efforts to comply with applicable law and regulation, and in the review of and prompt action on reports and recommendations from authorized planning, regulatory, and inspecting agencies ? Participate in key and vital relationships between Medical CEnter and other providers and payers in the region ? Preside at meetings as Chair, establish the agenda, communicate regularly with members regarding system, community, regional and state issues, building consensus and seeking counsel and approval ? Recommend appointments to committees, task forces, or study groups to achieve system objectives or perform specific tasks as appropriate ? Enhance the image of the medical center by promoting community involvement and by maintaining a relationship with area and state legislators ? Promote integration and effective utilization of resources within the service area ? Participate in Medical Center activities as necessary to promote integration with system ? Co-chair the Management Committee with the CAO ? Lead physician recruitment efforts and leadership development/succession activities ? Represent the medical center in matters dealing with physicians, Board, staff, the community, and the medical profession in the community Knowledge and Experience Required: ? Board certified physician in his/her specialty with a current license and DEA status ? Leadership/management experience in the medical field with a progressive increase in responsibility ? Experience in a multidisciplinary collaborative setting Preference is for the CMO to be full-time and have a clinical practice in the area In a city of 8,500 residents, and is located in the scenic bluff country of northeast Iowa along the picturesque banks of the Upper Iowa River.
