Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Flight Medicine Provider is a personal services position performed at San Antonio Texas Department of Defense Military Treatment Facilities (MTF). The Flight Medicine Provider shall perform services and support compatible with the medical facility’s operating capacity and equipment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: •HCPs should be board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) with specific training in Aerospace Medicine and certified as the Medical Review Officer (MRO) for the Drug Abuse Testing Program. •HCPs should have five years experience in Aerospace Medicine, but working primarily in the outpatient settings within the past three years. •The HCP shall have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: •HCP shall be proficient in providing preventive medicine services including Comprehensive Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine. •Knowledge of the DoD and U.S. Air Force Instructions (AFI) governing the duties and physical standards for aviators, special duty operators, and continued military services, to include but not limited to DODI 6130.03, AFI 48-123, USAF Aerospace Medicine Waiver Guide, and the equivalent Army/Navy regulations. • The HCP shall have knowledge of preventive medicine services including comprehensive aerospace medicine, occupational medicine. These services include but are not limited to primary care management of common adult illness and injures, health risk counseling, pre-placement examinations, and fitness for duty examinations. DUTY HOURS: •duty hours are Monday through Friday, 0630 to 1630 hours. SPECIFIC TASKS •Shall perform industrial hygiene shop visits, medical management of exposure to environmental toxins. •Shall initiate management and transport of decompression illness and treatment of clinical complaints associated with Hyperbaric and Hypobaric chamber activities. •Serve as the Medical Review Officer for the Drug Abuse Testing Program. •Performs flight/general physical examinations and care for flying and special operational duty personnel. Determine medical qualification for various purposes. Prepare documentation required for submission to Physical Examination Processing Program (PEPP), HQ/AETC Waiver/Certification Authority, the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) and/or Entry Level Separations as determined by circumstances. Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. •Provides care to eligible DoD beneficiaries seen in Lackland AFB Flight Medicine Clinic with an average of twenty-five (20) scheduled patients per duty day. HCP will provide care to an average of eighty (80) scheduled patients per week. These are estimated numbers but may vary either higher or lower. •Communicate to appropriate health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen as required. •Performs administrative duties to maintain patient medical records which includes coding of patient encounters and completes all documentation within seventy two (72) hours of care. HCP may be required to operate and manipulate automated systems such as Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application, Composite Health Care System, Essentris and the Ambulatory Data System. •Participate in medical education programs and staff committee meetings. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS The HCP/Contractor shall provide proof of immunization or immunity from or screening for the following diseases according to Air Force guidelines equivalent to that provided to active duty armed forces: Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella), Varicella, Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis), Tuberculosis (TB), HIV (HCP who have direct patient care) and influenza for all personnel prior to contract performance. For the TB screening, the HCP/Contractor shall provide proof of negative TB 2-step skin testing IAW CDC ecommendations outlined in attachment one (1) of this document. If an individual has a past positive TB skin test, the HCP/Contractor shall provide proof of a negative chest X-ray within twelve (12) months) prior to personnel performing. The Government reserves the right to require more frequent Tuberculosis testing of personnel based on the facilities’ annual TB risk assessment. Additional vaccines as they are made mandatory for health care workers may also be required in unusual circumstances.
