Job/Practice Description:
Provide emergency medical services to patients presenting at Blackfeet Community Hospital. Performs physical examinations, health assessments and treatment of varrying extremes of disease in individuals presenting themselves for care to the Blackfeet Community Hospital; refers individuals for consultation when indicated; prescribes and carries out therapy in conformation with approved clinical privileges and Billings Area/IHS policy. Provides direct patient care to non-Indian patients in emergency situations. Conducts initial and periodic health examinations for finding physical defects in need of correction and prescribes and implements treatments required to correct these defects. Administers immunizations to patients in compliance with established IHS and Billings Area policy and CDC recommendations. Participates in promoting health and disease prevention by educating patients on the nature of health related conditions, recommended therapy and healthy lifestyles. Assists in providing preventive health services to infants, children and adults. This includes immunizations, counseling and assessment of growth, development, contraception, accident prevention, nutrition and behavior. participates and assists in coordinating activities promoting health and disease prevention in the community and hospital. Makes necessary arrangements in concert with an active medical staff physician for admission of patients to the appropriate hospital, includes authorization for admission to contract facilities for emergency medical care, surgery and services not provided at the Blackfeet Community Hospital. Admits and conducts inpatient rounds on assigned patients. Orders and/or performs and interprets screening and diagnostic tests and procedures including but not limited to laboratory, x-rays, and electrocardiograms. Performs minor surgical and invasive procedures including but not limited to lacerations, I&D’s, toenail removal, joint aspirations, IV placement, conscious sedation, removal of cutaneous lesions, intubation, simple suturing of laceration, lumbar puncture, skin biopsy and myofascial injections. Assists surgeons as indicated in the peri-operative period. Provides emergency treatment including cardiac arrest, shock, hemorrhage, trauma and precipitous obstetric deliveries. Records patient – provider encounters in the electronic medical chart in a legible manner for accurate communication between providers, business office staff and data entry/Health Information personnel and completes all required documentation for accurate billing, ordering of diagnostic tests and referrals, H&P's, chart notes, etc. Maintains health summary and problem lists to ensure accurate patient data is recorded timely and must complete documetation of notes and encounters prior to shift change as per hospital policy. Participates in quality assurance measures as appropriate including peer review. Compliance with HIPPA regulations. Serves as a patient escort when medically indicated via aircraft or ground transportation. May assist in medical triage at the scene of disasters/multiple traumas. Shares in the responsibility of emergency or disaster call as indicated by Service Unit needs. May be assigned additional duties based on the Service Units needs.
Work Schedule:
Shifts will be on a 12 hour duration and may alternate from a day to night shift in the same week. A minimum of four shifts is required per week and will rotate throughout the week. One eight (8) hour shift is required to be completed for a hospital wide orientation, computer security, and other documention requirements for electronic health records and other administrative duties prior to any direct patient care in the Emergency Room.
Qualifications:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are mandatory. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) are preferred at the time of employment and throughout the term of this contract.
The Contractor shall also provide the following documentation: Immunity to Rubella, Mumps, Measles, Immunity to Hepatitis B series, History of chicken pox (varicella) disease or positive titer, Tetanus Diphtheria (Td) within the last 5 years, Documentation of receiving a TB Mantoux skin test (PPD) within the past 12 months with documentation of follow-up for a positive test, A signed declination of the Hepatitis B vaccination series will be accepted.
