Description Provide continuity care of all patients admitted to the Medical/Surgical Ward. Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF. Take part in clinic Quality Assurance Programs as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Coordination with other departments of the medical facility staff to provide complete care to patients. Obtain admission, history, and physical examination of patients who are presented directly from outlying military or civilian clinics or through the Emergency Department (ED).Provide evaluations as needed or requested by the ED in regards to possible admissions or acute care conditions and document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols. Provide clinical direction to supporting government personnel assigned to their area during the performance of clinical procedures. Provide preceptorship of residents who may be scheduled for call with delegation of duties and responsibilities only as appropriate for the type of resident and level of training (intern vs. resident) of the resident. (Note: individual skills and abilities will occasionally have to be taken into consideration also). Responsible for the quality and the timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.Participates in clinical education programs and in clinical staff quality improvement functions as prescribed by Chief, Department of Medicine.Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform the following medical procedures to include, but not limited to:Lumbar puncture, Arterial & Venipuncture for labs, Venipuncture for IV access, Intubation, Urethral Catheterization for labs,Ability to read and interpret ECGs (advanced skills not expected, but should be able to recognize serious abnormalities such as PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia), V-fib, V-tach, PVCs, PACs, PSVT with underlying WPW, Ventricular hypertrophy, bundle branch blocks, and primary, secondary, and tertiary AV block. Ability to read and interpret CXR, KUB, bone films Ability to read and interpret ABGs, CBC, electrolyte, coagulation, and similar routine lab results. Ability to insert central lines (e.g., subclavian) Comply with the MTF quality control program and the standing operating procedures of the MTF. Participate in clinical and quality review processes as determined by hospital policy.
