Description Serves as Chief Medical Officer (Internal Medicine) which involves performance of diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic services to Internal Medicine patients. Plans and adjusts work schedules and operations to meet established objectives, priorities, deadlines and/or standards of care. Provides information on capabilities, staffing and equipment requirements and problems in meeting work demands. Assigns work to employees in an efficient, equitable and selective manner to achieve satisfactory of patient care. Provides instruction, explanation and training in tasks and job techniques. Supervises staff physicians assigned to the department. Recommends promotions, reassignments, status changes, performance awards and disciplinary actions for assigned employees. Is responsible for the application and implementation of EEO program guidelines. Responsible for the overall planning, administration, development and implementation of program documents, reports, budgets, staffing, etc. Is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance and rehabilitation of family members in the capacity of a senior specialist or expert. Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides treatment arrangements for specialized care or patient referral as required. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Works closely with allied health professionals (i.e., Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Health Educators, etc.) t utilize and coordinate the services of other Health Care Professionals in the management of the family's medical , psychological and social problems. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. IN ADDITION TO BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level to qualify for the GS-15 grade level. CLINICAL AND TRAINING PROGRAMS: Specialist positions require graduate training and experience related to the specialty and subspecialty of the position to be filled. Experience may not be substituted for training essential for performing specialized duties. For GS-15, Five (5) years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. a. Ability to and review the work of subordinates trains and works effectively with surbordinates from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels/area of training. b. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time. c. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively. d. Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing out solutions to problems or questions related to the work. e. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day operations. f. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
