TRADITIONAL INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Hospital is searching for an internist for a traditional inpatient/outpatient practice.
This is a 66-bed sole-community provider hospital, located about 90 miles East of Springfield, MO and 140 miles Southwest of St. Louis. Services include the full gamut of primary care services—obstetrics, general surgery, 44-bed med surg, 4-bed ICU, cardiac rehab, ER, radiology (including an in-house MRI), laboratory, physical therapy, counseling, home health and hospice and emergency services. There are nursing homes in all of major surrounding towns, so that’s available to area physicians should they wish to care for nursing home patients, too.
Currently, the medicine call 1/8. Call is from home with a pager. Average daily census at the hospital hovers at about 15, with peak times during cold and flu season. Physicians usually have 20 to 30 patients a month in the hospital.
SALARY
The salary structure is simple, and can be quite lucrative. As an employed physician, there is a guaranteed salary of $200,000 and the bonus is 90% of clinic billings less expenses. The sky is really the limit for any of the physicians. If you see about 22 patients a day, you will reach bonus in the clinic, and depending upon the physician’s personal practice style, you can see as many patients as you wish. There are plenty of patients to be seen in our service area.
You are not required to manage the clinic or the billing in the clinic, and you can be as involved as you wish. The hospital is responsible for clinic collections, so you don’t have to worry about that. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, and the providers see patients from 9 to 5.
In addition to the guaranteed salary, benefits include 5 weeks of paid time off (to be used at your discretion), a $5,000 CME allowance, six paid holidays, life, health, dental, short and long-term disability insurances, paid medical malpractice insurance, and a 403-b retirement plan (with some matching after 2 years).
The hospital is very progressive. The hospital has PACS and in-house MRI. EMR is being added to each clinic. Plans are underway for an 18 million 38,000 square foot addition to the hospital that will create a new ER, radiology suite, and second floor with 24 private patient rooms. Groundbreaking will occur in the next few months.
Population is about 2,500 people, and they have all the traditional small town amenities—quaint downtown shopping, local weekly newspaper, Wal-Mart Supercenter, County Fair and other festivals. A 9-hole golf course, tennis courts and swimming pool, banks, several restaurants and churches of many faiths. A good deal of outdoor activity available, too—horseback riding, hiking trails, rivers for canoeing, kayaking or fishing and several state and national parks.
