Description Immediate Coverage for part time physician approximately eight (8) to twelve (12) hours per week. Must be BC in pediatrics, family, or internal medicine and licensed in PA. The Loysville Youth Development Center (LYDC) is an 88-bed open residential facility for adjudicated males, located in Perry County approximately 34 miles northwest of Harrisburg. A perimeter fence encloses the campus. The Population Youth committed here represent 18 different Pennsylvania counties and range in age from 12 to 19 years old. Those who are solely declared dependent, neglected, or who are mentally ill are not acceptable for placement here. The majority of juveniles committed have multiple previous offenses, and 60 to 80 percent of the youth are designated as special education. At the time of our visit, Loysville had 73 percent of the students in special education. The average length of stay is seven months, but there is a smaller population that stays on average, for 18 months at the Loysville Secure Treatment Unit (LSTU), which is an 18-bed facility on the grounds of LYDC. Loysville usually has three intakes a week, but can range from 2 to 5 intakes per week. Youth educational backgrounds are spotty; many have been out of school for over 2 years before entering the facility. On average, each year 11 or 12 students committed to Loysville will earn a GED.
