Job Description: As the Medical Director you will be part of a talented team responsible for behavioral health services in Maine. The Medical Director is the liaison that provides oversight and technical assistance in the area of behavioral health services for children to the Office of Child and Family Services, the Office of MaineCare Services and other DHHS Offices, as well as statewide contractors, acute psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and crisis centers. As Medical Director you will evaluate and assist in determining policy criteria for the eligibility of services for those who have behavioral health needs; oversee the provision of services and second level reviews regarding the provision of services; oversee and provide consultation related to the delivery of home and community based treatment, Early Childhood Autism Specialized Habilitation Services and Habilitation Consultation Services. You will also evaluate and approve out-of-home placements for members under 18 years old and perform utilization and review of out-of-state placements in Residential Treatment Centers; and develop and implement Clinical Guidance documents, policies, procedures and plans.
As Medical Director you will support OCFS, OMS and DHHS in achieving the following outcomes:

The Medical Director will have a broad array of duties and consultation responsibilities. Weekly duties, at 40 hours each week, are presumed to be delineated as follows:
Leadership of BH strategic reform 20% Input on Policy Development 20% Training on BH Services 10% Consultation on BH cases 20% Supervision/ Clinical oversight of BH services 20% Facilitating/ Engaging Stakeholders 10%
As Medical Director you will play a strategic role within DHHS and help shape the provision of behavioral health services across Maine through consultation on policy development, training and education to internal and external stakeholders, consultation on specific unique individuals within the service system, as well as guidance to key workgroups and committees. The DHHS is actively reforming behavioral services for children and adults within Maine in order to create a service system that is more integrated and coordinated with service delivered through primary care. As Medical Director you will help to support certain outcomes related to that reform, and the effective and efficient use of behavioral health services, and promote overall improved coordination of physical and behavioral health system.
