Description Full Time position available in the filed of correctional medicine providing primary and urgent care for inmates of a private prison near Florence, AZ. Training time required. The Physician Assistant provides professional medical services in a correctional facility. Provide a variety of professional medical services to inmates/residents to include administering examinations, diagnosing medical and other problems, prescribing medications and providing treatment and follow-up care. Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Interview inmates/residents and make decisions on admissions. Make clinic rounds. Participate in treatment team meetings where individual health plans of inmates/residents are devised, reviewed and altered. Direct unit treatment operations. Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers and outside provider agencies. Utilize established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions, but use sound independent judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position. Motivate and encourage staff to perform their duties consistent with policy and procedures. Perform post offer physical examinations and drug screens for applicants/employees. Monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate release whenever clinically appropriate. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. Prepare and maintain a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary and/or operational records, reports and logs, using appropriate grammar, to review reports and records produced by medical staff; properly processes all reports and documents in a timely manner. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Communicate effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors and the general public, particularly in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment. This includes giving information, instructions and directions, mediating disputes and providing reliable testimony, in court and other formal settings. Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs. Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits; attend court hearings, when necessary; conduct research of charts; review status of inmates/residents with serious health problems for completion of all necessary intervention and treatment. Remain alert at all times and react quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency and other high stress situations. Operate a motor vehicle during both the day and night where driving conditions can include congested traffic and unsafe road conditions caused by factors such as fog, rain, ice and snow.
