DUTIES
• Perform screening process to diagnose and treat patients referred for neurosurgery or other telemedicine supportable care such as tele-neurology or tele-traumatic brain injury.
o This includes performing physical exams and obtaining comprehensive and problem-focused histories for neurosurgical conditions; ordering/interpreting radiology, lab and diagnostic tests; and developing/prescribing/assessing non-operative treatment (before surgery is considered).
• Schedule and consent patients for video tele-conference (VTC) specialty consults based on indications; prepare and forward patient documentation to consulting specialist before consult; manage VTC consult session; and schedule and manage pre-op review (if surgery is recommended) and follow-up VTC consults.
• Complete the medical and administrative tasks required for the medical board process and become familiar with all phases of Physical Disability, Profiles, Line of Duty Investigations, and Standards for Induction, Enlistment and Retention on active duty.
• Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referral to other health care providers .
• Conduct EEG, EMG and nerve conduction studies (if licensed) as requested by providers.
• Coordinate with local, regional and component representatives to ensure rapid delegation in the administrative requirements.
