Description The Barry Robinson Center - A Behavioral Health System for Youth The Barry Robinson Center (BRC) is a private, non-profit, behavioral healthcare organization dedicated to serving the needs of emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and adolescents ages 6-18 in its 72 bed residential treatment facility. The Barry Robinson Center 72 residential beds serving youth with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. BRC also offers community based programs and services. The Barry Robinson Center combines modern residential facilities with several of the original colonial-style buildings dating from 1933. This combination makes it one of the most beautiful and unique residential treatment centers in the region. Our 32-acre wooded campus is conveniently located on the border of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, provides a serene setting for programs helping at-risk youth and their families overcome emotional and behavioral difficulties. 72 residential beds serving youth with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. [The substance abuse beds are also residential beds]. The average length of stay is about 8-9 months. They currently have two board certified child and adolescent Psychiatrists, who are responsible for the 60 psychiatric beds. To comply with Tricare requirements, they would need a third psychiatrist. One of their 2 current child psychiatrists is responsible for 36 beds. We'd need to substantially reduce the number of beds for which he would be responsible. Almost all of the psychiatric patients are funded by Medicaid. 12 beds are currently allocated for youth ages 13-17 with primary substance abuse problems. The youth in this program can have co-occurring psychiatric problems. The average length of stay in this program is about 90 days. This program's current Medical Director is a board certified addictionologist and psychiatrist. Most of the patients are funded by Medicaid but a small portion of the patients are funded by a combination of private pay and commercial insurance.
