Albany is the heart of Plantation Trace, the southern portion of Georgia's Southern Rivers Region. Founded on the bank of the Flint River, Albany is located 183 miles southwest of Atlanta and 80 miles northwest of Tallahassee. Albany is known for being the Pecan Capital of the World and the birthplace of the late blue's legend Ray Charles. Area recreation includes quail hunting on one of the gorgeous plantations, arena football, and traveling to the depths of underwater springs without getting wet! Population approximately 80K.
Directs, coordinates, and provides medical/clinical services to patients. This includes engagement, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, family meetings, supportive psychotherapy, patient education, risk assessment, and discharge planning. Has a defined caseload, has productivity goals, and meets the psychiatric needs of any patient. Participates in on-call rotation for the hospital. Participates in utilization management and quality improvement activities.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the attending Psychiatrist to patient(s). Completes initial psychiatric assessments, progress notes, family interventions, develops differential diagnostic assessments, assessments of capacity for consent to treatment, risk assessments, patient education, progress towards treatment goals including medical, psychological, social, behavioral and developmental aspects of the patient’s situation.
Documents patient’s progress in the clinical record in addition to medication flow sheets according to established policy. Completes medication education and informed consent when possible. Assists with medication reconciliation.
Participates in unit rounds and team meetings while addressing the behavioral issues of patients. Supervises and guides the interdisciplinary team.
Assesses patient’s needs and guides the clinical team while managing treatment plan updates, in addition to initiating contact with outside Providers according to established guidelines.
Serves as on-call as directed.
Is responsive to psychiatric consultation in the medical / surgical settings of the hospital as appropriate when on call.
Psychiatric consultation may be indicated to 1) ensure the safety and stability of the patient within the medical environment 2) to collect sufficient history and medical data from appropriate sources to assess the patient and formulate the problem 3) to conduct a mental status examination with neurological and physical examinations as necessary 4) to establish a differential diagnosis 5) to initiate a treatment plan and assist non-psychiatric physicians and staff about medical and psychiatric issues related to a patient’s illness.
