The University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine
is seeking critical care or pulmonary critical care physicians.
The Department of Internal Medicine in Las Vegas is responsible for the
training of approximately 49 Internal Medicine residents. The program is
affiliated with University Medical Center (UMC) and offers a comprehensive
mix of inpatient and ambulatory teaching experiences. The department’s goal
is to ensure that each resident possesses the knowledge, procedural skills,
critical thinking, and professionalism required to succeed as a general internist
or future sub-specialists.
The critical care physician will care for patients in the ICU setting and stepdown
units at UMC hospital. The position will care for patients with a full range
of critical care illnesses and be expected to perform a full range of ICU
procedures; including central line placement, arterial line placement, intubation,
and ventilator management. Pulmonary critical care physicians may be
expected to provide consultative services, pulmonary function test evaluation,
and diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy.
The physician will be expected to supervise residents and students in care of
critically ill patients and performance of procedures. This will consist of
rounding with the ICU team and providing close supervision of care and
procedures. The physician will also teach daily on rounds and will be expected
to contribute to resident noon conferences and the student core lecture series.
Potentially they will be asked to help develop a critical care or pulmonary
fellowship program.
The candidate will also be expected to develop a scholarly activity program.
This will include clinical scholarship, mentoring residents in the production of
abstracts, and case reports. For those qualified and interested, opportunities in
clinical research will be provided.
The small size of our program makes for a more flexible and friendly
environment. Although this is a University program with a strong didactic
tradition, the atmosphere here is relaxed and informal. We have a diverse
patient population that is unparalleled as well as great hospital ancillary services to help care for our patients. Finally, there simply is no other city in
the world quite like Las Vegas, which has something for everyone.
